More Information and Comments Policy
The City of Columbia Heights maintains social media pages to help ensure an ongoing link between taxpayers and the City. A social media presence is another way government can communicate to the broadest possible audience. The City of Columbia Heights’ intent is to increase transparency, immediacy, and feedback to the community and to address the fast-changing landscape of the internet and the ways residents communicate and obtain information online.

Social media is intended as an information supplement to the City of Columbia Heights’ website, newsletter, press releases, and in-person communications. Staff will post or respond to comments within office hours (Mon-Fri, 8 am-4:30 pm) and within the varying parameters of staff availability. For these reasons, staff may not respond to every comment or question posted on the social media site, or commenters may be directed to a phone number or website for more information. Please note that comments expressed on the City’s social networking sites do not reflect the opinions or positions of the City of Columbia Heights, its employees, or its elected officials.

Comments will be monitored, and the City reserves the right to remove any comments, questions, or postings containing: • profane or hateful language or content • personal attacks, harassments, or threats against any individual or organization • content that promotes, fosters or perpetuates discrimination on the basis of race, creed, color, age, religion, gender, marital status, status with regard to public assistance, national origin, physical or mental disability or sexual orientation • content not topically related to the particular social medium article being commented upon • support for or against any political campaign or ballot measures • copyright infringements or other legal violations • solicitations of commerce • sexual content or links to sexual content • conduct or encouragement of illegal activity • information that may tend to compromise the safety or security of the public or public systems • content that violates a legal ownership interest of any other party. If a user violates the above content policy after being notified, the City reserves the right to block that user.

Columbia Heights hired the firm ArchiveSocial in 2018 to keep track of all posts and comments made on the City’s social media pages. This was to ensure that the City has complete and proper records in the event of a data practices request.
