Building Permits & Inspections

The Community Development Department administers Building Permits and Inspections.

Building Inspections are available from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm, Monday - Friday. The earliest possible time for an inspection is 8:30 am and the latest possible time is 3:30 pm. To schedule an inspection, please call (763) 706-3670.

Permit Applications
All permit applications can be downloaded and submitted via email or printed and returned via postal mail.

If submitting your application via email, please submit the completed application to Building Inspections at inspections@columbiaheightsmn.gov.  

Permit Fees
Permit fees are based on the job valuation, which includes the cost of materials and labor. Also, a plan review fee may be applied to the permit cost depending on the type of work being done.

Please contact the inspections department at (763) 706-3670 to receive a fee determination for a permit.

Information for Contractors
All contractors conducting work within the City of Columbia Heights must have a valid State and/or City Contractor License to do so. Additionally, permits are required prior to the start of any construction.

Furthermore, the City of Columbia Heights, by perpetual ordinance, adopts the most current Building Code of Minnesota. Included in the State Building Code are administrative rules pursuant to Minnesota Statute, Chapter 326B, Construction Codes and Licensing.
