The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) released crime statistics for 2016. As the CHPD continues to review and analyze crime statistics, we’re encouraged that our level of proactive policing, combined with investments in community policing, are paying dividends in lowering crime in the city. This chart tracks the total number of crimes reported in Columbia Heights for the years 1981 through 2016. As you can see, 2016 had significantly lower number of crimes reported than at any other point during that time frame.

UCR Part 1 Crime Comparision 2006 to 2016
As part of our ongoing review of crime statistics, the CHPD conducted a comparison of Part I (more serious) crimes in the State of Minnesota, in Anoka County, and in the City of Columbia Heights. Crime is down across the board, but we’re pleased to note that we’re seeing a more significant decrease in the City of Columbia Heights.
