Call Before You Dig
Before you start your next yard project, call 811 before doing any digging. You are required by law to know what is below before digging, trenching or excavating. This will help avoid potentially hitting buried natural gas or electric lines, preventing serious injury or death, property damage, and costly fines.
A call to 811 reaches Gopher State One Call which will arrange for trained professionals to locate and mark non-private buried utilities in the area you plan to dig. Colored flags or paint will identify the type of buried utility--red for electric and yellow for natural gas. This service is free. However, you must call three full business days before you plan to break ground to allow the utility companies to mark their buried utilities. Learn more at Xcel Energy.
