Water Main Cleaning and Lining

When cast iron water main pipes were installed over 50 years ago, the interior of the pipe was not lined with a protective coating to prevent mineral build-up.  As a result, iron deposits can build up in the pipes and contribute to the discoloration of the water.  To correct this, the City began an annual cleaning and lining program in 2005 whereas the water mains are cleaned to remove build-up and then a protective coating is installed to prevent new rust from forming, which keeps the water clear.  This procedure adds approximately 25-40 years to the life of the pipes.

City staff has taken many samples and continues to test the drinking water to ensure compliance with State and Federal requirements.
