Police Department Donated Bikes to Public Schools Friday

On Friday afternoon, Columbia Heights police officers, on behalf of the City, donated seven bikes to Columbia Heights Public Schools, which in turn distributed the bikes to students in need of a bicycle. These were recovered bicycles that had not been claimed by their owners.

This is the fourth year of the Heights Bike program, a cooperative effort involving multiple organizations.

The Columbia Heights Police Department Association donated bike locks for each bike and the Fridley-Columbia Heights Rotary Club donated helmets.

For the second year, Robert Putz from Wells Fargo Bank donated his time to refurbish the bikes and make sure they were in good operating condition.
