Want to Run for Office? Filing Now Open!

2018 City Candidate Filing Now Open
Candidates can file for office starting today, May 22, through June 5. City Hall will remain open an extra half hour on the last day of filing.

Applicants should visit City Hall, 590 40th Ave NE, Columbia Heights, 55421, to get the application and to file. They must be at least 18 years old and a Columbia Heights resident. Filing fee is $15.

The mayoral and two City Council seats are up for election this year. The Mayor serves a two-year term. Council members serve four years.  Find out more here.

The general election is Nov 6. The primary election is Aug 14. There will be a Council primary if total applications amount to at least one more than twice the number of open council seats. For example, if the City receives five or more applications for Council, there will be a primary. If the City receives three applications for mayor, that will also trigger a primary.

All seats are at-large. Candidates can withdraw up until June 7 at 5 pm.

Keep track of who's filed here.
