Hy-Vee Renews Site Plan Application for Convenience Store in Columbia Heights

Hy-Vee Renews Site Plan Application for Convenience Store and Gas Station
Hy-Vee has submitted a revised site plan application this June to build a convenience store and gas station on the northeast corner of Central and 47th Avenues.

The application has been reviewed by community development staff and will go before the Planning Commission for approval July 10.

The convenience store and gas station would carry an assortment of produce, meats, bakery and dairy products, and ready-made foods. According to the site plan, there would also be a café in the store and a small outdoor patio.

Hy-Vee had already submitted site plan applications in 2017 for both a grocery store and a convenience store in Columbia Heights, but those applications expired while the company took a year to step back and reevaluate its plans.

Grocery Store May Be Next
Hy-Vee is also expected to re-submit a site plan application in the next few months for a grocery store at 4300 Central Ave, said Elizabeth Hammond, City planner.

Company representatives have stated that, if all goes as planned, they would like to begin construction on both sites by Oct 1, 2018, with a completion date sometime in 2019.

The grocery store would take over the former Rainbow Foods and Slumberland Clearance Center spaces.
