A Meet the Candidates Forum for City Council is 6 pm, Tue, July 14, Submit Questions Now

The City of Columbia Heights, in partnership with the League of Women Voters ABC, will host a “Meet the Candidates” forum Tue, July 14, for the seven candidates running in the Columbia Heights City Council primary. The event will be broadcast live from 6 to 7:15 pm on Facebook and local government access channels. A moderator will be provided by the League of Women Voters.

Due to social-distancing guidelines, an in-person audience will not be allowed, but residents can still get involved by submitting questions for the candidates here. Please submit questions by July 10.

A second forum for the two mayoral candidates and the top four City Council primary vote getters will be held in September, date and time TBA.

***Primary Day is Aug 11***
Seven members make up the City Council primary ballot this year. The top four vote getters will advance to the general election on Nov 3. Two seats are up for grabs.

A primary is triggered when more than twice the number of candidates file than there are open seats. For example, since there are two seats open for City Council, it would take at least five candidates to file to require a primary.

Absentee voting for the state primary election begins on June 26. For more information on absentee voting, click here.

***General Election Day is Nov 3***
For the general election Nov 3, the top two vote getters in the City Council race will win a seat. All seats in the City Council are at-large.

Columbia Heights needs election judges for both the Aug 11 primary and the Nov 3 general elections. Election judges from a variety of party affiliations are needed (for more information or to apply, contact the Columbia Heights City Clerk at 763-706-3611).
