Election Season Officially Begins: Candidate Filing Window Open May 17-31

The 2022 candidate filing period is open between Tue, May 17, and Tue, May 31. You may file an Affidavit of Candidacy (PDF) during regular office hours (M-F, 8-4:30 pm) or on May 31, 8-5 pm. All filings must be received by Tue, May 31, 5 pm. Bring candidate filings for municipal offices to Columbia Heights City Hall, 590 40th Ave NE, Columbia Heights, MN 55421. There is a $15 filing fee. If possible, please contact City Clerk Sara Ion at (763) 706-3611 before arriving so she can be ready to accept and certify your paperwork and fee.

In Columbia Heights, one seat is open for Mayor and two seats are open for City Council members-at-large. If we receive twice-plus-one the number of candidate filings as there are available seats, a primary will be held. For example, primaries will be necessary if three or more people file for Mayor, or if five or more people file for Council, to narrow the field down to only two for Mayor and four for Council. The primary is Aug 9, 7 am-8 pm. The General Election is Nov 8, 7 am to 8 pm. The 2023 term for those elected for Mayor and Council starts Jan 2.
