Update Regarding Waste Management Yard-Waste Service Delay

June 8 Update:
Walter's Recycling and Refuse was scheduled to collect bagged and bundled yard waste at the curb June 6 and 7 for the entire City, but crews were unable to reach all households due to higher-than-expected demand and plan to complete pick-up for the City's west side Thursday and Friday, June 9 and 10. Please have your yard waste bagged and at the curb for pick up if it hasn't already been picked up. Also, a yard waste roll box is now located at 3735 Madison St (behind Public Works) for public drop-off of yard waste until Waste Management curbside service resumes.

Original Post:
The City of Columbia Heights apologizes for the recent lack of bagged and bundled yard-waste service throughout the City.

Waste Management has informed the City that curbside bagged and bundled yard-waste service will be halted due to driver shortage, possibly until August. In response, the City plans to do the following:

• The City has arranged for a different company to provide yard-waste pickup through the entire City on Monday and Tuesday next week, June 6 & 7, to collect the bagged and bundled yard waste at the curb. Please have your yard waste bagged and bundled and at the curb for pick up by early Monday morning.
• Next week, a yard waste roll box will be located at 3735 Madison St (behind Public Works) for public drop-off of yard waste until Waste Management curbside service resumes. The City will notify residents via our website and CodeRED general alerts when the roll box is installed and ready for material drop off.
• Compost carts will still be emptied weekly on their scheduled day.
• Yard-waste charges will be canceled for all properties until regular service resumes. Cancelation of these charges will be backdated to May 1 with refunds credited on the next billing cycle.

Again, the City apologizes for the inconvenience.
