Fire Hydrant Flushing Begins April 17
Fire hydrant flushing is scheduled to begin on Mon, April 17, with the NE Quadrant of Columbia Heights. Flushing will proceed with the SE Quadrant on Mon, April 24, then the NW Quadrant on Mon, May 1, and concluding with the SW Quadrant on Mon, May 8 (schedule is weather dependent). Hydrants will be flushed from 7 am to 3 pm Mon-Fri.
Hydrant flushing will remove sediment and deposits from the watermain that has built up over the past year. This process can lead to some discoloration in the water. Residents that experience discolored (yellowish/brownish) water should run cold water at the laundry tub, or a lower-level sink (outdoor hose spigots work well too) for 10-15 minutes, or until the water clears up. The discoloration of the water is normal and should clear with the running of cold water at a lower-level sink.
