Columbia Heights Officers Earn D.A.R.E. Certification
Columbia Heights Police school resource officers Mohammed Farah and Ibrahim Farah became the first Somali D.A.R.E. instructors after earning their certification this spring.

“Minnesota D.A.R.E. is excited to expand our D.A.R.E. instructor base to include officers Mohammed Farah and Ibrahim Farah,” said Kathi Ackerman, executive director of Minnesota D.A.R.E.

Minnesota D.A.R.E. is a prevention and education program that advocates for healthy and safe children. Mohammed and Ibrahim took a multi-week intensive course to get certified in the program.

“This program absolutely prepares kids on how to combat drugs and violence in their lives,” said Mohammed Farah. “Now that Officer Ibrahim and I have the necessary training, we hope to bring that knowledge into our communities.”

The D.A.R.E. program has been in schools for nearly 30 years. This year, Minnesota D.A.R.E. has 22 new officers.

“This is a program that is much needed in our schools," Ibrahim said. "It encourages open communication between our youth and local law enforcement officers.”
